The Cisco Multiservice IP-to-IP Gateway facilitates simple and cost-effective connectivity between independent voice-over-IP (VoIP) and video networks. Designed to meet enterprise and service provider Session Border Controller (SBC) needs, the Cisco Multiservice IP-to-IP Gateway is an integrated Cisco IOS Software application that runs on:

Direct IP interconnections between VoIP networks lower costs, lower latency, improve voice quality, and offer greater flexibility to support emerging services when compared with public-switched telephone network (PSTN) or time-division multiplexing (TDM) interconnections.

The Cisco Multiservice IP-to-IP Gateway provides a network-to-network interface point for:

*Signaling interworking (H.323, Session Initiation Protocol [SIP])
*Media interworking (dual tone multifrequency [DTMF], fax, modem, and codec transcoding)
*Address and port translations (privacy and topology hiding)
*Billing and call detail record (CDR) normalization
*Quality of service (QoS) and bandwidth management (QoS marking using type of service [ToS], differentiated services code point [DSCP] and bandwidth enforcement using Resource Reservation Protocol [RSVP] and codec filtering)

An SBC must interoperate with many different network elements including voice gateways, Cisco Unified IP phones, and call-control servers, in many different application environments, from advanced enterprise voice and/or video services with Cisco Unified CallManager or Cisco Unified CallManager Express.

The Cisco Multiservice IP-to-IP Gateway provides organizations with all their SBC needs integrated into the network layer to interconnect VoIP and video networks and is used by service provider, enterprise, and SMB customers to interconnect SIP and H.323 voice and video networks.
