WEEE & Recycling

In accordance with the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) regulations, Direct Visual is now offering it’s customers a waste disposal service for products we supply, including videoconferencing codecs, projectors, plasma screens, LCD TV’s and control panels.

The directive now states that all IT and telecommunications equipment must be decommissioned and recycled in a safe and environmentally friendly manner, and through a certified channel.

The service is available to all customers who are looking to replace existing videoconferencing systems and presentation facilities, removing the concerns they may have with the disposal of their existing electrical equipment.

Direct Visual will ensure the equipment is removed from your site safely and is destroyed in an environmentally friendly manner, saving you both time and money.

The WEEE regulations regarding videoconferencing and AV came into force from April 1st 2007 and so is a new issue for businesses to consider, especially in light of recent highlighting of the governments push for more eco-friendly, ‘green’ practices.

The responsibility for equipment is shared between the manufacturer, the distributor and the end-user. Any equipment bought before 13th August 2005 is the responsibility of the end-user to dispose of, and any equipment bought after that date is the responsibility of the manufacturer, or, if the product is imported, the responsibility of the importer.

In the case of Direct Visual this means we are only responsible for the removal and recycling of all TANDBERG videoconferencing systems bought from us after 13th August 2005, but we are happy to offer the service for all equipment that is swapped out for more up-to-date equipment, whenever it was bought.

The WEEE Compliance Directive
The directive is aimed at reducing the amount of electrical and electronic waste that goes into landfill. Manufacturers, distributors and resellers of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (such as IT equipment), must provide adequate recycling channels.

The purpose of this Directive is, as a first priority, the prevention of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), and in addition, the reuse, recycling and other forms of recovery of such wastes so as to reduce the disposal of waste. It also seeks to improve the environmental performance of all operators involved in the life cycle of electrical and electronic equipment, e.g. producers, distributors and consumers and in particular those operators directly involved in the treatment of waste electrical and electronic equipment.
