Direct Visual Supplies the Link for Puppetry Hi-Jinx
DV and The Wright Stuff Make it happen
When The Higher Education Academy, organisers of the Playing with Learning conference, needed expertise to provide a videoconferencing link up during their second annual event they turned to Direct Visual for help.
The event, hosted at the Scarman House Conference Centre in Warwick, discussed innovative ways to teach and how to make learning more fruitful for students by using technological resources, videoconferencing being just one.
Direct Visual teamed up with The Wright Stuff, the UK’s leading educational Puppet Theatre company, to provide a twenty minute performance via videoconferencing to the conference delegates.
The performance highlighted the importance of technology in young people’s lives, and how its incorporation into daily educational lives was important to ensure that students were not alienated by teaching staff.
Taking on the characters of a University Professor and a Student, the performers answered questions from conference delegates, gave their own views on technology in education and added further fuel to the debate.
To enable the connection Direct Visual used two TANDBERG Edge 95 systems and recorded it on the TANDBERG Content Server at their head office in Elland, West Yorkshire, which was then provided as a video file for conference delegates to view.
Direct Visual’s James Keen attended the event; “It was a wonderful event, with massive amounts of help and guidance for those in attendance, and was a pleasure for us to be involved in. The link up was fantastic, and the Wright Stuff did a wonderful job in engaging the delegates and in accentuating the meaning and point of the event.”
Direct Visual has been involved in a number of learning based special events in the past, including managing links between Government ministers and primary school students, running storytelling sessions, arranging for Children’s television actors to discuss their industry with college students and running distance learning days with the National Space Centre.
