Movi is Mobility: TANDBERG Brings Flexible Work Lifestyle to Masses
Face-to-Face Communication from Anywhere with New PC Videoconferencing Solution
In the past, when faced with the option to work from home or at the office, most employees have had to make the difficult choice between work/life balance and achieving career goals. Now TANDBERG makes it easier for those that want to have their cake and eat it too.
Committed to delivering high-quality, innovative visual communications, TANDBERG today announced commercial availability of Movi, a first-of-its-kind PC videoconferencing product that enables everyone in an organization to communicate visually from anywhere. Teleworkers can now have effortless face-to-face conversations with co-workers and supervisors from their laptop – all without leaving their home, neighborhood coffee shop, commuter train, airport lounge or hotel room.
Evolving from “Teleworking for the Few” to “Teleworking for Many”
According to a study by management consultants Deloitte1, 41 million corporate employees globally may spend at least one day a week teleworking, and 100 million will work from home at least one day a month by 2008. Despite this steady increase of occasional teleworkers, obstacles still remain for wide-scale adoption of working from home.
The importance of face-to-face meetings is often cited among employees as one reason for choosing to work in the office rather than from home. While videoconferencing can help overcome that obstacle, traditional videoconferencing systems often reside in conference rooms or at the desktop, while PC video is as mobile as a laptop computer. By providing visual collaboration from anywhere, Movi offers the potential to ease the road to mass adoption of teleworking.
In addition, in a recent survey by Futurestep2, Korn/Ferry’s outsourced recruitment subsidiary polled 1,320 executives from 71 countries and reported that 61 percent of global executives say they believe that telecommuters are less likely to advance in their careers in comparison to employees working in traditional office settings. Movi can help level the playing field for teleworkers. By providing the spontaneous face-to-face communication common in traditional office settings, Movi affords teleworkers important “face time” with their supervisors without ever leaving their home.
“Videoconferencing from a PC portends a major cultural shift that will benefit the global workforce,” said Fredrik Halvorsen, TANDBERG chief executive officer. “As PC-based visual communications becomes commonplace across the enterprise, the definition of “workplace” will evolve – making employees more mobile and enabling employers to better manage a geographically distributed workforce.”
Easy to Adopt and Deploy
Movi is a server-based video application for the enterprise market that re-defines ease of use. As a centralized network device, Movi features one-touch installation, and IT departments can manage Movi centrally through the Web. With no locally installed software, updates, diagnostics and measurement are much simpler than with other PC video tools.
