World's Biggest 'Virtual' Coffee Morning
On the 28th September 2007, Macmillan Cancer Relief’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ was back once again, and
Elland based Direct Visual joined in the fun by hosting a coffee morning with a twist.
Direct Visual, the UK’s leading videoconferencing specialist, linked their headquarters at Lowfields Business Park
with their partners Imago Group Plc in Manchester and TANDBERG in Egham, Surrey, via videoconference for a morning
of coffee, cakes, raffles, prizes and bingo.
Participants in the coffee morning were able to chat with colleagues across the country using the latest in High
Definition videoconferencing, and competed against each other in Bingo games, creating a ‘virtual’ Bingo hall
covering over 210 miles from North to South; the first event of its sort.
Direct Visual’s James Keen is delighted with the fundraising efforts of his employer, and their partners. “It’s
wonderful to see everyone getting involved. The help given by Macmillan Nurses cannot be over stated. Having seen
the difference they made helping my Aunty in her final days you realise that they really are an amazing organisation,
with amazing people.”
The Managing Director of Direct Visual, Marina Shaw has always encouraged charitable work by her staff, in recent
years Direct Visual has raised several thousand pounds for Macmillan Cancer Relief, Cancer Research UK, Red Nose
Day and Children in Need. “We understand our corporate responsibility and the need to help in whatever way we can.
Our chairman, Mike Phillips, has taken part in the Longest Day Golf Challenge, we’ve had music concerts, basketball
tournaments, and a number of other fun activities to get our staff into a charitable mood.”
She then added; “The difference we can make as a group, along with our friends TANDBERG and Imago will make someone’s
life much easier as they deal with the affects of cancer.”
Last year over £6.7 million was raised during the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning as over 2 million people around the
country took part.
Ciaran Devane, Chief Executive of Macmillan Cancer Relief, is delighted with the support; “I’d like to say a massive
thank you to Direct Visual, Imago and TANDBERG for joining the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer
Support. Cancer affects us all and simply having a cup of coffee is a great way to help Macmillan be there for more
people with cancer.”
